Baby I’m Back!

Whew!  It has taken me a long while to get back to what I’ve always loved doing – writing.  I’ve guest blogged here and there, but the thought of getting back into a routine with my own blog has been so overwhelming I’ve shied away from it far too long.  But after a long hiatus, some much needed R&R and a recent moment of reflection on what I’ve accomplished and still hope to tackle…BABY, I’M BACK! 😉

Where have I been, you say?  Oh…probably nowhere the average 40-something year old African American woman hasn’t been…I guess it was just my turn in line.  I’ve been through 2 whole years of divorcing (yes, it actually took that long…Jesus!), along with a sudden necessity to care for two elderly parents, single-mothering of 5 children in the home, working-working-working day and night (yes – a full-time job), and trying to keep my relationship with God (nearer My Lord to thee) while keeping everyone alive including my sanity…YIKES!!!  It’s been quite the trip!

Now that I’m back, I can’t wait to tell you all about the journey my children and I have taken, the things I’ve learned, the places I’ve been, the dreams I still hope to achieve and the joy, peace and laughter I’ve enjoyed along the way.

But first…we EAT!  😀  Next up…a recipe for my amazing Cajun Shrimp and Sweet Potato Soup!  Check it out and we’ll chat soon…

Blessings and Bonanzas!

It’s My Anniversary: 14 Things Marriage Has Taught Me

14 years ago at the “tenderoni” age of 25, I married the most handsomest guy I’d ever seen! He was 1 month shy of his 22nd birthday, which made me a “Cougar”…to which I utter a soft, but proud RAAAAWRRR :D! The last few weeks, my hubby and I started reminiscing…laughing and chatting it up aboutContinue Reading

The Cunningham Chronicles: Dating Your Kids

We are the Cunninghams – 1 dad, 1 mom, 6 kids – whew! Yep, that’s us.  People often ask, “How do you make time for 6 kids and still have time for yourself?” The answer, as always, is, “You make time to do what you want to do – if it’s something/someone you love, you’llContinue Reading

Get Yourself A Good…Electric Tea Kettle

Do you have a wise woman in your life that gives you the best advice? Someone who seems to know the perfect this or that that will remedy your every need? Someone whom after sobbing over your lacks, failures and shortcomings will always offer a quick fix statement of, “You know what you need, girl?Continue Reading

I’m sure most of you mothers know what an overwhelmingly good feeling it is to know that you are giving your baby the absolute best!  That is how I (and most mothers) felt with breastfeeding.  There’s no doubt about it, breast milk is the best, most nutritious, healthiest food a mother can give her infant.Continue Reading

Oh Ninja Blender, How Do I Love Thee!

After about a month of plant-based living, I completely wore my blender out.  It was an old – scratch that – ancient, Oster brand blender that I had purchased for my sister more than 10 years ago.  It hadn’t seen that much blending in years and certain parts of it were rusty (not any partsContinue Reading

PThirty1 30-day Plant-based Sample Menu

The first couple of weeks of my plant-based challenge, I chose a few things that weren’t quite optimum.  After a discussion with my dietitian and a world renowned psychologist, we were able to figure out something very simple – I needed a written guideline, plan or map, if you will, on what to eat.  JulieannaContinue Reading

My Top 10 Kitchen Essentials for Plant-Based Dieting

A while ago I comprised a list of kitchen staples and shared it with some friends who were considering doing the plant-based diet.  While that list was comprehensive (and expensive), I thought I’d condense it and narrow it down to 10 essentials.  Only this time I’m including kitchen gadgets as well.  After all, having theContinue Reading

Top 10 Things I Love About Plant-based Dieting

I went back and forth on the title for this article for about 30 minutes.  I juggled “plant-based living” versus “plant-based dieting.”  I decided I can’t appropriately call it plant-based living because I haven’t completely switched to a plant-based lifestyle.  Since I started the diet a few months ago, I have cheated here and thereContinue Reading

Hannah’s Fashion, Food & Fun Slumber Party

As children get older, it gets harder, more time-consuming and, worst of all, more expensive to plan their parties.  My second oldest child, Hannah, recently turned 12 and this was her year for a birthday party (an every other year occasion).  I wanted to incorporate all of the things Hannah loves (painting, baking, crafts, fashion),Continue Reading
