Baby I’m Back!

Whew!  It has taken me a long while to get back to what I’ve always loved doing – writing.  I’ve guest blogged here and there, but the thought of getting back into a routine with my own blog has been so overwhelming I’ve shied away from it far too long.  But after a long hiatus, some much needed R&R and a recent moment of reflection on what I’ve accomplished and still hope to tackle…BABY, I’M BACK! 😉

Where have I been, you say?  Oh…probably nowhere the average 40-something year old African American woman hasn’t been…I guess it was just my turn in line.  I’ve been through 2 whole years of divorcing (yes, it actually took that long…Jesus!), along with a sudden necessity to care for two elderly parents, single-mothering of 5 children in the home, working-working-working day and night (yes – a full-time job), and trying to keep my relationship with God (nearer My Lord to thee) while keeping everyone alive including my sanity…YIKES!!!  It’s been quite the trip!

Now that I’m back, I can’t wait to tell you all about the journey my children and I have taken, the things I’ve learned, the places I’ve been, the dreams I still hope to achieve and the joy, peace and laughter I’ve enjoyed along the way.

But first…we EAT!  😀  Next up…a recipe for my amazing Cajun Shrimp and Sweet Potato Soup!  Check it out and we’ll chat soon…

Blessings and Bonanzas!

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Nutella Butter Cookies

It has been a looooong while since I have blogged.  Almost 2 years, in fact.  Yikes!  All year, I had planned my blog comeback.  I was going to tell you how I had filed for divorce, how my children had taken the aftermath of the separation, how caring for my elderly parents has made myContinue Reading

Saving Green on Black Friday: GameStop and $50 Gift Card Giveaway

Some people dread Black Friday and avoid the hustle and bustle.  While I am not your camp out all night, trample people in the stores kind of shopper, I do like to take advantage of the awesome deals my favorite stores offer on Black Friday. Three of my children are in the teen/pre-teen/tween age and,Continue Reading

Monte Cristo Roll-Ups

When I was a teen (just a few short years ago ;)), I couldn’t wait to get a job and make my own money. I got so sick and tired of asking my dad for money to hang out with my friends…heck, I even had to ask for school lunch money everyday! When I landedContinue Reading

2014 NWI Free Summer Fun Calendar (For Working Moms)

It took a while for me to finish my summer fun calendar this year. It’s like the season just crept up on me. I mean really, it was winter and snowing and Jack Frost and what not and then all of a sudden it was 80 degrees! Just like that! While there are lots ofContinue Reading

Thursday Things: Ideas For Organizing The Garage

If I could have blogged one article for every project I’ve taken on, recipe I’ve cooked and all other things going on with the family this month, there’d be enough material to read until the end of the year – WHEW! Let me first apologize for not checking in as often as I should, butContinue Reading

Thursday Things: What To Do With Above-the-Cabinet Space

As much as I love to decorate, paint, create, fix-up, style, whatever-you-call-it, my kitchen is about the plainest Jane kitchen I’ve ever had. In our apartment, I had a huge kitchen with an island (well, really a peninsula). I had barstools for catching a quick bite at the island as well as a kitchen table.Continue Reading

Fun In The City: Les Miserables (Perfect For Mother’s Day)

Recently, the hubby and I went to see Les Miserables at Drury Lane Theater in Oak Brook. While I realize Oak Brook can be quite a drive for some (as it was for us), the theater experience was soooo worth it. Drury Lane is a small intimate theater, with plush, roomy seats that are closeContinue Reading

Fried PB&J

Only those who have patience to do simple things perfectly ever acquire the skill to do difficult things easily. ~ James J. Corbett    My friends, I could not have possibly said it better than that. 🙂 What in the name of pepperoni pizza could get more simpler than a PB&J? Just the thought ofContinue Reading

Parmesan Cauliflower Bites

Let’s face it, vegetables can get quite boring. Especially when you’re in a rush to put food on the table and a well-balanced meal is a must. I am on the constant quest to make veggies more interesting. Why? Because I have 6 kids…5 of them that still live with me albeit all 6 ofContinue Reading
